Trying to configure webglimpse as nonroot user. Can you help?

My goal is to index is output from MhonArc (a program that converts mail
to html) in this directory

http://raven.cc.ukans.edu/~kups/maillist/polsannounce

I've got glimpse 4.12.5 and webglimpse-1.7.7. I've installed it about
10 times and finally I confess I have to ask for help.

I'm not root, so I installed webglimpse in

~/webglimpse

(where I type in the full path in place of ~) and my idea is to put the
webglimpse output in

~/public_html/webglimpse_output/polsannounce.

I'm experimenting with a list called testdir and it is indexed in
webglimpse_output/testdir

That way I can have subdirectoris parallelling the different mail lists
I want to index.

When I configure the webglimpse program, it asks me for the server dns,
I say raven.cc.ukans.edu and the document root is
/homea/kups/public_html.

When webglimpse runs, it does not get the correct web address for the
individual entries. It finds the files, but when it writes the addresses
it leaves
out the user acount name ~kups. SO I see things like this when the
indexes are created, indicating the html address is incomplete:

Indexing "/homea/kups/public_html/maillist/testdir/msg00000.html
http://raven.cc.ukans.edu/maillist/testdir/msg00000.html" ...
Indexing "/homea/kups/public_html/maillist/testdir/msg00010.html
http://raven.cc.ukans.edu/maillist/testdir/msg00010.html" ...

As you see the http address is wrong, there is no ~kups in it, and none
of the generated links work in the search output.

Then I got an insiration to change the name of the DNS in .wgsiteconf,
like so:
SERVER raven.cc.ukans.edu/~kups
PORT 80
DOCUMENTROOT /homea/kups/public_html/
HTTPDCONF /usr/local/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
WGSCRIPTALIAS cgiwrap/kups /homea/kups/public_html/cgi-bin

That WORKS, it makes the searches generate links that work. However, the
output on from the search has these error messages at the top:

Use of uninitialized value at /homea/kups/webglimpse/lib/siteconf.pl
line 125. Use of uninitialized value at
/homea/kups/webglimpse/lib/siteconf.pl line 130. Use of uninitialized
value at /homea/kups/webglimpse/lib/siteconf.pl line 134. Use of
uninitialized value at /homea/kups/webglimpse/lib/siteconf.pl line 134.

The reindex program generates the same kinds of things:
 $ ./wgreindex
Use of uninitialized value at /homea/kups/webglimpse/lib/siteconf.pl
line 125.
Use of uninitialized value at /homea/kups/webglimpse/lib/siteconf.pl

Getting local files by directory...

Except for the ugly output from the search, this seems mostly OK.

Oh, yes, this works only when I do the indexing by directory, not web
site URL. When I do the T style search, it never finds any documents.
Which I think means it does not understand ~kups
