Hm - try running the actual glimpseindex command from wgreindex by hand.
It is actually glimpseindex that creates these files, not glimpse.

Look in the wgreindex script for a line like

/bin/cat /your/archive/dir/.wg_toindex | /usr/local/bin/glimpseindex -H
/your/archive/dir -t -s -z -h -X -U -f -C -F > /dev/null

and try running that manually.

Also, make sure that .wg_toindex has the correct list of files (you can do 

	wc .wg_toindex

to see if the number of lines is about right)
