no partitions ?

Hi - I've hit a sudden brick wall with WebGlimpse. In general, there are
certain times confarc *will* create .glimpse_partitions and glimpse_index,
and certain ones where it won't. The 'wont' seems to occur after I hit a
certain numerical limit on indexed pages or directories...

System: Linux 2.0.34 w/ Apache
        Webglimpse package download 1.7.1/edu

For example:
	If I attempt to index 3 directories with 16,278 files, it indexes
correctly and reports all the .glimpse_* files that get created, as well
as "hash_misses=0 num_input_filenames=0". Great. Search engine works.

BUT:    If I attempt to index 4 directories with approx 7,000 more files,
the only thing output at the end of indexing is 
	"hash_misses=0 num_input_filenames=0"
and .glimpse_index and .glimpse_partitions doesn't get created. Hence, no
searching can take place.

Subsequent attempts at altering archive.cfg and running wgreindex fail as
well. 

Also, attempts at hand creating the necessary files via 
        glimpse -h -t -H . /directory_to_index
where I need the .glimpse* files to reside fail.

Any ideas on what the heck is going on here? Hints?
