Yeah, the problem is glimpse is actually built directly out of the agrep
code - so its not always making a system call to agrep, it may just be
calling agrep routines internally.  You're right, though, it wasn't at all
clear that you couldn't just use the word-boundary regexps to solve the
problem.

The main problem with doing a lot of literal exec's (and the reason glimpse
does most of its work internally) is cpu time.  Does egrep have a lib
interface?
