You know, I think you are right - and it would save a lot of cpu time, as
this one line is by far the biggest bottleneck in the webglimpse part of
the code.  btw, I inherited this monster regexp from way back, and have
just been tweaking it since; maybe its time to rip out and replace.

Let me look at it some more and run tests over the weekend...likely I'll do
something very close to your code below...
